Barter System Explanation

The instructions below explain how to use our barter matching system.

  1. To barter, just post your ads on the selling list i.e. post what you want to barter.
    • Login to your BarterPalace.com account. If you are a new user, create an account first; it's quick, easy and FREE.
    • Click on the "Sell something" link on the user menu on the left side of the page. See figure below.

    • Fill in the form and click on 'Submit' button. You can add picture(s) to your items. If you want to modify or add picture(s) to your ads, just go to "My selling list" link and click the item you want to modify.
    • For demo purpose, I created an ad called "Sony stereo --- include CD, cassette, radio" for $18.00.
    • Once you are done with the "Sell something" section, then go to step 2.

  2. Create your wish list i.e. what you want.
    • Click on the "My wish list and barter match" link on the user menu.
    • At the "My wish list and barter match" page, you can create your wish list. See figure below.

    • For demo purpose, I tell the system that I want Oracle books, the price I am willing to pay is $15 and I am willing to travel 400 miles (just an example; we strongly encourage you to barter locally in order to prevent fraud and scam).

    • The system will do the barter matching automatically if I have something for sale in my selling list. In the highlighted area, you can see that there are seven (7) Oracle books for sale. You can view all 7 listings by clicking on the number '7' link.
    • The number after the word "Barter" indicates that there is ONE POTENTIAL BARTER MATCH PERSON. By potential barter match, we mean: (i) I have something that person wants and that person has something I want, and (ii) the price for both items is within the range we have each specified. Note: When the items are under $20, we don't do a price match. We will do some reasonable price range match if it is above $20.

    • After I click the number '1' link, I can see all of the items that are matched for bartering. In this demo, one of our real barterpalace.com users called "phillip". Phillip has lots of oracle books for sale/barter. I can click on any of the items to view the detailed description of the item. I can contact the seller regarding an item that I am interested in and would like to barter for.

Note: The sellers name only shows up on my barter match list because I have something he wants, i.e. stereo system. On Phillip's wish list, he indicates that he wants a "stereo system" or "Sony stereo".
